His lessons on Love

Title:  HIs Lessons on Love Author: Cathy Maxwell Publisher: ? Year Published: 2022 Started: Jan 25 2022  Finished: Jan 27 2022 Review: It really felt like there was no conflict and little love tbh. Maybe since this is the 3rd book in a triliogy the first 2 give these 2 back stories? A lot of the story is driven by telling us about the encounters they had as children that drove her dislike for him. (Little is shown in present day to reflect that with the exception of the duel subplot)  Also I'm not sure I believe that a man would so willingly accept a child that is dumped upon him even today but especially not back then.  Another thing I'm not a fan of was how neatly her "father" was willing to accept her, it just feels like social mores wouldn't have really allowed for that and everyone around her is so nonchalant about all of it.  Plus as much as I needed a palette cleanser from some of the other things I've been reading lately, this almost felt like I w...

Heir of Fire (ToG book 3)

Title:  Crown of Midnight (Book 2) Author: SJM Publisher: Bloomsbury Year Published: 2014 Started: Jan 19 2022  Finished: Jan 21 2022 Review: The writing was light years better than it had been in the first book, there seemed to be more world building and overall character growth. (Even if sometimes the MC is tstl)  I'm not sold on Rowan. It feels to perfect for him to swear himself to her, also it feels like there should have been more to breaking the blood oath Things are definitely going to be interesting with Dorian now that his father has control over him.  While I eventually came around to liking the witches, I didn't love the expansion of POV's. (Though I may just be a little shell shocked from ASoIaF which isn't fair since this series at least has a conclusion) Also it felt like padding out a book that didn't need to be 500 pages  Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: - " Celaena was currently in hers, her mortal human body as animal as the birds...

Crown of Midnight (ToG Book 2)

Title:  Crown of Midnight (Book 2) Author: SJM Publisher: Bloomsbury Year Published: 2013 Started: Jan 17 2022  Finished: Jan 19 2022 Review: The writing was light years better than it had been in the first book, there seemed to be more world building and overall character growth. (Even if sometimes the MC is tstl)  (Again I think my habit of aging up the protagonists makes things work better because I could believe she was young but not as young as the book claimed.) I'm glad the love triangle was murdered but I just know a new one is coming, because Chaol needs his closure and Rowan is Rowan. (also tumblr/tiktok have spoiled me beyond belief) Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: - "He wouldn’t let his servants change the sheets on his bed because they still smelled like her, because he went to sleep dreaming that she was still lying beside him." - dude is not handling his rejection well, and I know there's a lot going on but I'm still stuck that he was in love...

Throne of Glass (Book 1)

Title:  Throne of Glass (Book 1) Author: SJM Publisher: Bloomsbury Year Published: Started: Jan 7 2022 ( I tried to read this originally in 2019  Finished: Jan 17 2022 Review: I hate love triangles, hate them.  Also I think my habit of aging up the protagonists makes things work better because I could believe she was young but not as young as the book claimed. (Also I know Dorian should marry as a crown prince but I didn't understand the pressure if he was just 19, he did have a younger brother in case of his death) Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: - "He didn’t understand the rage that arose upon seeing Dorian standing in the doorway, didn’t want to understand that sort of anger. It wasn’t jealousy, but something beyond it." - tiktok has already spoiled me with the ending of this but I'm not sure I get why Chaol is already in love with her with not too after meeting her - 'In the garden, the Captain of the Guard stared up at the young woman’s balcony, watc...

Bringing down the Duke

Title:  Bringing Down the Duke  Author: Evie Dunmore Publisher: Bloomsbury Year Published: 2019 Started: Jan 10 2022 Finished: Jan 13 2022 Review: My thoughts on this haven't changed since I read it the first time, while I think they are mostly a good match I don't love them together. I know there is always a power imbalance because of social rank but it feels like Annabelle needed to heal from the damage her father did and that her cousin was still doing before marrying anyone.  This is a reread caused by a spur of the moment wanting to reexperience a scene between Annabelle and Montgomery when outlining a fic idea Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: - “If we were of equal station,” he said softly, “I would have proposed to you when we took our walk in the maze.”  - I get what he was going for here but this is just so mean to her. Why do you need to kick her while she's down? Especially given her past interactions with the nobility -"What a way to find out he did...

A Court of Frost and Starlight

Title:  A Court of Silver Flames Author: SJM Publisher: Bloomsbury Year Published: Started: Jan 7 2022 Finished: Jan 8 2022 Review: Everyone was right this was straight fluff and seemed to serve to just move a few pieces a long and explain Feyre's about face in ACOSF It did not feel worht the price, given it is almost one third the length the 2 books on either side of it.  I am however curious about what Mor woke up on her estate, and I am truly supposed to believe no one else knows about it? I struggle with that fact no one ever found. But I feel like there is a set up here for Mor's story and even the crumbs with Lucien about how he has no home to come up in the next book. I am curious how that is going to be handled, he doesn't seem to want anything to do with Velaris3 Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: -it's sad the unresolved trauma of the bat boys for example: -Cassian just wants to be accepted  by the very people who tormented him and he clearly is still...

The Villian

Honestly not really feeling this book, the writing is plodding and slow, very overly descriptive probably going to dnf but need to add details why. (I know I'm early in the book but I'm just not feeling it and the reviews imply it's soley from h's perspective and tbh she's tstl and I think that is a big one for me.)

A Court of Silver Flames

Title:  A Court of Silver Flames Author: SJM Publisher: Bloomsbury Year Published: Started: Jan 1 2022 Finished: Jan 3 2022 Review: (Note: these are thoughts while still reading may change) Rhys is a dick but it is interesting that he's a dick in both Cassian and Nesta's PoV not  just Nesta's, might have made more sense  Nesta is terrible to Cassian, even after they've been sleeping together for some time (Like she gets annoyed with others claiming he's just a brute but then she turns around and says the same thing about him a page or two later) Also this is not as spicy as everyone claimed, yes they fuck but mostly in their rooms. (It's implied it happens elsewhere but not described as of 85% this may change) Nope still not that spicy, like it's allluded to them fucking around the whole house but it's not explicit. It didn't feel anymore explicit than most adult romances that aren't marketed as clean, I'm not sure I understand all the 1 st...

First book of the year: A Court of wings and Ruin

Title: A court of wings and ruin Author: SJM Publisher: Year Published: Started: Dec31 2021  Finished: Jan 1 2022 Review: (To be fair I originally started this book in 2019 but due to how the book started with her back living with her abuser I was struggling to read it given other things in my life at that time) def going to need a re-read to fully process some of the revelations such as lucien being a bastard,  it being implied elain and Az will end up together. (also  the hints about the "mating bond" at the end seem bad for elain if she doesn't gravitate towards Lucien) Felt like almost everything was wrapped up a little too nicely except for the human queens angle, which I'm guessing will be the subject of the future books. (not silver flames but az maybe or mor? ngl I'll be upset if we mor before az) 3 Words to describe this book: - disjointed - a bow Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: - when cassian lands to save her followed by az - The revelation unde...
