A Reckless Match

T itle:   A Reckless Match Author: SJM Publisher: Bloomsbury Year Published: 2021 Started: May 3 2022  Finished: May 5 2022 Review: This was a re-read of a novel I read back when it released because I needed a pallette cleanser because of real world events as well as reading perhaps a bit too much smut as of late.  This is a mostly light and fluffy read that focuses on two rival families who don't seem to be at each other throats. (we are told more than shown that there is a deep and long rivalry here but tbh I don't totally buy it.) It does touch on survivors guilt and how the MMC feels because due to the death of his father he is unable to rejoin his unit at Waterloo and how he does feel guilty  One thing I didn't like is that a lot of their relationship relies on prior history, which is fine if we get more of it but given that the bulk of this story happens in 2 weeks it feels like we needed more of their shared back story to make me believe in their rel...

Kingdom of ash (ToG 8)

Title:   Kingdom of Ash Author: SJM   Publisher:  Bloomsbury Year Published: 2020 Started: April1  2022  Finished: April 12 2022 Review: I was here for Lorcan and Elide's arc. However Aelin/Rowan once they were reunited, I didn't love their arc. Also I felt that the wolf tribe reveal was frustrating another of Aelin's plans we see or hear nothing about, I guess it was a fitting way for the series to end. I did not think Aedion did enough  to redeem himself, Lysandra should have made him beg even more. I know his father died but in the run up to that  I still hate Chaol, I know I enjoyed the focus on the mmc's mental issues in ToD but here he still annoyed me. Also while I liked them as a couple in ToD, I felt like Yrene was diminished here because of her relationship with him. (I needed more of her and Aelin) Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember:  - "So Lorcan did." - this book was already 1000 pages long and we couldn't get their fir...

The High Mountain Court

Title:   The High Mountain Court Author : A.K. Mulford   Publisher:  Year Published: 2021 Started:  April 10th 2022 Finished: April 13th 2022 Review: This is a book  that feels rushed, it could have maybe benefitted from another 200 or so pages. While there was decent world building in parts, others felt completely glossed over and we were left to fill in the gaps.  .  I do love a fated mates trope but again it feels rushed. Also it seems like it's going to be enemies to lovers, but she is into from the moment they meet, and I need my enemies to lovers crack  I did enjoy that the witches seemed to be main characters like the fae, and not secondary until they became annoying to the plot. Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: Why did he have to speak to her like a friend and treat her like an enemy?

HIs Bonnie Bride

Title:  His Bonnie Bride Author:  Publisher:  Year Published: Started: Jan 25 2022 Finished: DNF (april) Review: The step mother is a raging bitch but I had bigger issues with this book.  Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: Tavis was a creep and  he had no spine at all, just look at how he was manipulated by his mistress and even Storm to a point

From Blood and Ash

Title:   From Blood and Ash Author:  Jennifer L. Armentrout   Publisher:  Blue Box Press Year Published: 2020 Started: Feb 12  2022  Finished: April 12 2022 Review: The writing was bad, the msin character naive and repetitive From goodreads: " 30592 different terms that are thrown in to describe  (Game of Thrones meet Twilight)  vampires, dragons and wolves, or the snail-moving plot." Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: Nothing though apparently the writing just gets worse

Tower of Dawn (ToG 6)

Title:  Empire of Storms (ToG 5) Author: SJM Publisher: Bloomsbury Year Published: 2017 Started:  Feb 20 2022 Finished: March 20 2022 Review: I have thoughts and while it took awhile to pick up my issues with this book weren't because it was about Chaol, they were about two things: The "southern continent" -- it feels like for all the world building this is woefully underused but at the same time she couldn't give it a name?  I didn't like the way the revelation about Maeve, not because I don't like it as a plot point but because it feels like every time this series gets a villain it needs to villain swap Epiphanies/quotes/ Things to remember: “Nothing. I deserve nothing.” -Chaol (It was nice for a change to focus on some of hte male lead's trauma and mental health issues tbh, that was one of my main critiques of ACOTAR)

Unmasked by the marquess

Title: Unmasked by the marquess Author: Cat Sebastian Publisher: Avon Year Published: 2016 Started: March 6 2022 Finished: March 7 2022 Review: Overall I liked it but I didn't love it. Epiphanies/quotes: - I didn't fully love the resolution. Parts of it felt too easy, like there didn't seem to be a ton punishment for him like he got out of dealing with his aunt, and doesn't feel like he had too much pain socially
